Frequently Asked
What kinds of sessions do you photograph?
Nine, each with its own care and approach: weddings, senior portraits, engagement sessions, family portraits, Quinceañeras, Catholic photography, corporate portraits and branding, sports, and events.
How do we begin working together?
However feels right to you. You can reserve a session online in a few minutes, send us a message, arrange a Meet Nydam Photography conversation to talk it through first, or simply call. We never push you toward a single path.
What about deposits and payment?
For weddings, a 30% retainer reserves your date, with the balance due before the day. All other sessions — senior, family, engagement, Quinceañera, corporate, event, and Catholic — are reserved with payment in full at booking. Sports sessions vary by format. Everything is confirmed clearly before you commit.
When will we receive our gallery?
Portrait and event galleries are typically ready within two to three weeks. Weddings take a little longer to do them justice — usually six to eight weeks — and we'll always share a handful of favorites soon after your day, so you don't have to wait to relive it.
How do we view and share our images?
Every session is delivered in a private online gallery you can view, download in high resolution, and share with family at your own pace, on any device.
Can we order prints and albums?
Yes. Heirloom albums, fine-art prints, and wall pieces are available right from your gallery, printed by professional labs so they look the way they're meant to and last for generations.
Do you travel for weddings and sessions?
Always. We're based in Austin and photograph throughout Central Texas and the Hill Country, and we love destination weddings and sessions anywhere your story takes you.

Senior portraits are one of our signature experiences, built around who your senior is right now. NP Seniors is our featured senior program, with a limited number of spots each season.
Do you work with businesses, families, and athletes?
Yes — corporate portraits, branding, and events for teams and founders; relaxed family portraits; Quinceañera celebrations; and sports photography for individual athletes and full teams.
Do you offer Catholic photography?
Yes, through our dedicated Catholic practice — Catholic weddings, First Communions, Confirmations, and Baptisms across the Diocese of Austin, always photographed with reverence for the liturgy.
Are you insured?
Nydam Photography is fully insured, drawing on eighteen years of experience, and we're glad to provide a certificate of insurance for any venue that requests one.
The People Behind the Camera
Meet Arlen & Tanya
Nydam Photography is a two-person, family-run studio in Austin. Arlen has been photographing for eighteen years, and holds a PhD in English — a background in narrative that shows up in how he shoots. He thinks in story structure: what the beginning is, what the turn is, which frame carries the meaning. That's why our galleries read like a story instead of a pile of nice pictures.
Tanya has had a camera in her hands since she was ten, when her father taught her film photography. Film teaches you to slow down — every frame costs something, so you learn to wait for the one that matters. That patience is still how we work. When she and Arlen met, the thing that thrilled her most was that they could photograph together.
Every wedding is covered by both of us. We photograph with natural light and flash — almost always, even outdoors — because the quality of the image matters more than the convenience of the approach.
